When to upgrade from paper to synthetic poly (BOPP) labels
Standard direct thermal and thermal transfer paper labels absorb moisture, scuff under forklift and pallet friction, and tear along die cuts when exposed to humidity, oils, or outdoor yard storage.
Polypropylene (BOPP) and flexible polyolefin films are biaxially oriented synthetic substrates that resist water, mild solvents, and mechanical tearing. They keep barcodes crisp and scannable on chemical drums, environmental manifests, nursery stock, and industrial totes.
Direct thermal poly film vs. thermal transfer polypropylene
We supply both ribbonless direct thermal poly film (such as 3.2 mil topcoated synthermal poly) and thermal transfer polypropylene rolls. Choose direct thermal poly when you want waterproof tear resistance without stocking ribbons—ideal for cold-chain totes, cross-docking, and outdoor lumbar or nursery tags.
Choose thermal transfer polypropylene paired with a wax/resin or pure resin ribbon when your labels must survive chemical splashes, prolonged UV exposure, hazmat manifest handling, or multi-month outdoor storage.
